Sweet and crunchy baklava, a popular Greek dessert!

Directions

Step 1

Preheat oven for 350 degrees.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Sugar, light brown is best, any will do
  • 1 cup Honey
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh Lemon Juice

Step 2

Combine sugar, honey, water, and lemon juice in a pan and bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook for 15-20 minutes, until the mixture begins to thicken. Remove from heat and set aside.

Ingredients

  • 12 pound Frozen Phyllo Dough, thawed

Step 3

Thaw the phyllo dough and unroll carefully. Have a damp towel nearby to keep the dough covered while you work.

Ingredients

  • 2 12 cups Walnuts, chopped
  • 12 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons Sugar, again, light brown is best, any will do

Step 4

For the filling, combine the sugar, cinnamon, and chopped nuts in a bowl. Mix thoroughly.

Ingredients

  • 2 sticks Unsalted Butter, melted

Step 5

Brush a 9" x 13" baking dish with butter. Lay down two sheets of phyllo dough. Brush the top layer with the butter. Lay down two more sheets of dough. Brush the top layer with butter again. Repeat one more time with two sheets of dough.

Step 6

Spread one-third of the filling mixture on the top layer. Repeat this two more times: six total layers of phyllo dough (every other layer brushed with butter) and one-third of the filling. Top with six sheets of dough in the same manner and brush the top layer with butter.

Step 7

Cut into diamonds, squares, or whatever shape you wish.

Step 8

Bake in the oven for 20 minutes.

Step 9

Remove, pour any remaining melted butter over the top, then bake for another 20 minutes or until the top is golden brown.

Step 10

Remove from the oven. Pour the syrup from Step 2 over the top, making sure to pour along the lines where you have cut. Allow to cool to room temperature, or put in the refrigerator, before attempting to remove pieces.
