Beef And Bean Chili

Classic beef and bean chili recipe, a family favorite.



  • 1 Yellow Onion, medium, diced about 1/2" pieces
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil

Step 1

Start sautéing onions in oil until soft.


  • 2 cloves Garlic, crushed

Step 2

Add garlic after onions soften so garlic doesn't burn.


  • 1 12 pounds Ground Beef

Step 3

Add and brown ground beef. Also excellent with venison stew meat.


  • 1 can Canned Whole Tomatoes, cut into chunks
  • 1 can Tomato Paste
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano
  • 3 12 tablespoons Chili Powder, gephardt brand
  • 1 teaspoon Sea Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Canned Chipotle Peppers in Adobo Sauce, diced
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 Dried Whole Bay Leaf

Step 4

Add tomatoes and seasonings. Cook together over low heat 30 minutes. Use a potato masher or back of spoon to keep breaking up pieces of tomato. Water will reduce away. You can add more if needed as chili reduces.


  • 2 cans Canned Dark Kidney Beans, drained

Step 5

Add drained beans and cook an additional 30 minutes.


  • 1 12 cups Sharp Cheddar, shredded
  • 1 cup Sour Cream

Step 6

Serve with cheese and sour cream as garnishes.
