Hummus is a dip or a spread that is made from chickpeas, lemon, tahini, olive oil and garlic. You can add extras to hummus like spices such as cumin, paprika, cayenne pepper, etc. or you can add some herbs or even things like roasted garlic, roasted red peppers or sundried tomatoes etc. The possibilities are seemingly endless. Not only is hummus is super easy to make but it is also fairly healthy and it tastes great.

  • 1 can Canned Garbanzos (Chickpeas), 15 ounces
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 14 cup Tahini
  • 12 Lemon, juiced
  • 1 pinch Ground Cumin, (optional)
  • Olive Oil, to taste

Step 1

Puree chickpeas, garlic, tahini, lemon juice, cumin in a food processor. Slowly add olive until until it is of a smooth consistency. Can add some water (or more olive oil) if it is still too thick. Did have to add 1/4 - 1/2 cup water.

  • Kosher Salt, to taste
  • Freshly Ground Black Pepper, to taste

Step 2

Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  • Fresh Parsley, chopped, to taste (optional)
  • Olive Oil, to taste

Step 3

Garnish with parsley and olive oil. Serve with toasted pita bread or as a dip for vegetables.

Step 4

Variations: Add 1 head roasted garlic or 2 roasted red peppers or 1/2 cup sun-dried tomatoes or sun-dried olives in Step 1.
