"Mashed Potatoes are good but rutabaga mashed potatoes are supreme. The carrot gives this puree some color and a nice hint of sweetness. If you don't want to use milk in this recipe, you can substitute 1/4 cup of the cooking water from the rutabaga and potato pot."

Directions

Step 1

Bring a large pot of water to boil.

Ingredients

  • 12 large Rutabaga, about 1 lb peeled, cut into 1/2 inch chunks

Step 2

Add a few pinches of salt and then drop the rutabaga; cook for 10 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 12 pound Potato, any kind, peeled, but into 1/2 inch chunks
  • 1 medium Carrot, chopped

Step 3

Add the potato and carrot; cook until everything is tender, 15 to 20 minutes. Drain.

Ingredients

  • 14 cup Milk

Step 4

Heat the milk in a large saucepan, but do not boil.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons Unsalted Butter, melted

Step 5

Mash to rutabaga and potato wit the butter until smooth, adding a little of the warm milk at a time until the mixture reaches the consistency you like.

Ingredients

  • 34 tablespoon Salt
  • 14 teaspoon Grated Nutmeg
  • Freshly Ground Black Pepper

Step 6

Stir in the salt, nutmeg, and pepper to taste. Serve hot.
