Taco Meat Using Homemade Taco Seasoning

Makes: 1 servings adjust
Easy recipe for taco seasoning with far less sodium than pre-packaged mixes. It is not spicy but has just a hint of a kick. Spice level can easily be adjusted by reducing the amount of crushed red pepper.

  • 1 tablespoon Chili Powder
  • 14 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 14 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 14 teaspoon Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
  • 14 teaspoon Dried Oregano
  • 12 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 12 teaspoons Ground Cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Sea Salt, if using regular salt use only half as much
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Black Pepper

Step 1

To make seasoning: In a small bowl, mix together chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper flakes, oregano, paprika, cumin, salt and pepper. NOTE: Can be made ahead or in larger quantities and stored in an airtight container.

  • 1 12 pounds Lean Ground Beef

Step 2

To make the taco meat: Brown 1-1/2 pounds lean ground beef in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Drain the accumulated fat.

  • 12 tablespoon All-Purpose Flour
  • 23 cup Water, may need slightly more

Step 3

Sprinkle 3 Tbsp of the prepared taco seasoning (from Step 1) and 1/2 Tbsp flour over the ground beef. Add 2/3 cup water and stir to combine.

Step 4

Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, for 5-10 minutes.
